What acetone does in your process

Acetone is the workhorse polar aprotic solvent — miscible with water and most organics, fast-evaporating, low residue. Five core roles across specialty, manufacturing, electronics and analytical chemistry:

Specialty Solvent

API synthesis, recrystallisation, equipment cleaning, granulation. Class 3 ICH residual solvent — well-tolerated, low toxicity.

USP IP EP

Lacquer & Coating Thinner

Dissolves nitrocellulose, acrylic and alkyd resins. Used to thin lacquers, inks, varnishes and clean spray equipment between colour changes.

Technical Anhydrous

Plastic & Resin Solvent

Welds PVC, ABS, acrylic and polystyrene. Backbone solvent for fiberglass and polyester resin systems. Strips epoxy and 2K paints.

Technical USP

Electronics Cleaning

Removes flux, photoresist and organic residues from PCBs and semiconductor surfaces. Ultra-low non-volatile residue and trace metals.

Electronic ACS

Analytical & HPLC

HPLC mobile phase, GC headspace, UV-spectrometry, recrystallisation, glassware rinsing. Tight specs on water, residue and UV cut-off.

FAQ

If you're new to sourcing acetone — or shopping around — here are the questions procurement and lab managers ask before a quote.

What's the difference between technical and ACS / HPLC grade?
Technical (industrial) is ≥99.5% pure and the right call for paints, plastics, cleaning, and most synthesis. ACS reagent is ≥99.5% with tighter limits on water and non-volatile residue — the standard for analytical chemistry. HPLC is ≥99.9% with ultra-low UV-absorbing impurities and residue, filtered to 0.2 µm — suitable for HPLC mobile phases.
Is your acetone USP / IP / EP compliant?
Yes — our high-purity grade meets USP, IP and EP monograph specs. Full Certificate of Analysis with every batch. DMF letter of access available for regulated markets on request.
Is acetone considered dangerous goods for shipping?
Yes. Acetone is UN 1090, Class 3 (Flammable Liquid), Packing Group II. It requires a DG-cleared forwarder and UN-approved packaging (steel drums or IBC totes). We arrange DG-compliant ocean and air freight to every major port worldwide.
Which grade for semiconductor or electronics cleaning?
Electronic grade (≥99.99%, ppb-level metals, ultra-low non-volatile residue, SEMI-spec packaging) is the standard for semiconductor wet processing, photoresist stripping and critical PCB cleaning. For less critical electronic cleaning, ACS reagent is often sufficient.
What packaging is acetone supplied in?
Standard packaging is UN-approved steel drums (160 kg / 200 L) and IBC totes (~790 kg / 1000 L). ISO tank lots are available for full-container quantities. Smaller pack sizes (1 L, 2.5 L, 5 L glass / HDPE) can be quoted for lab, analytical and electronic-grade requirements.
Do you ship to the US given DEA precursor reporting?
Yes. Acetone is a US DEA List I chemical, which means certain importers and end-users must hold DEA registration and provide pre-shipment documentation. We support customer DEA filings with all required paperwork (COA, SDS, end-use declaration, packing list) for compliant US imports.
Can you supply TDS / SDS / COA before purchase?
Yes. Submit the form on this page and we will share the Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Material Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and a representative Certificate of Analysis (COA) for the grade you've selected. Every shipment carries its own batch-specific COA.

Need a quote in 24 hours?
